Simple Income & Expenses Tracker app

We recently launched our third app. It is an app for monitoring the income and the expenses – Simple Income & Expenses Tracker.

I have been looking over time for a simple app which to can use it only to be able to add my income and my expenses. I wanted to be able to clearly see, at the end of the month, some important aspects:

  • the total income
  • which are the activities that brought income and their share in the total value
  • the total expenses
  • which are the basic expenses and their share in the total value

I didn’t find anything like this, so we solved the problem by developing the Simple Income & Expenses Tracker app to track the income obtained and the expenses incurred.

How does this app help you to track the income and the expenses?

  1. Add the income and the expense categories
  2. Enter the income very easily as you get it
  3. Enter expenses very easily
  4. Generate the graph of the income and the expenses
  5. Generate the chart with the share of the expenses in the total Expenses
  6. Generate the chart with the share of the income in total Income

1. Add the income and the expense categories

You can add an unlimited number of income and expenses categories. To add a new category, whether it’s income or expense, you need to follow these steps:

  • click on Categories (in the bottom bar, the right button)
  • click on the “+” sign (a pop-up will open)
  • add Name
  • select Income or Expense
  • click “SAVE” button

The categories are differently colored:

  • with blue the income categories
  • with red the expenses categories

2. Enter the income very easily as you get it

For a single type of income, monitoring the income is probably not a very important function. But for for those people who get income from more activities, this becomes important because you can find out which income has a higher share in total. In this way you can direct your activity, but especially your efforts, to those branches that bring you the highest income.

With the income and expenses tracking app, you can create an unlimited number of income categories. To enter an income you must select the date and you have to complete:

  • Title (for example Table Sale, Painting Sale, Insurance, Rent, Salary etc.)
  • Partner (Client Name)
  • Value
  • Select the category it belongs to (if there is no category, you can add it from Categories tab)

After adding a new income, the list of the income from the current month will be displayed. If you want, you can select another period of time and the app will generate your list of all incomes recorded in that period.

3. Enter expenses very easily

As you buy something, you can add those amounts of money. You always have your phone with you, so adding a new expense is not a problem. You will never forget any expense incurred, so the final report will be correct. You can also create an unlimited number of categories for your expenses, which you can easily track. At the end of the month you will know very clearly which are the expenses with the largest share in the total. If you want to save, you know exactly which category you have to change.

For adding a new expense you also have to select the date and to fill in a few fields:

  • Title: name (for example Transportation, Internet, Food, Books, Fan etc.)
  • Partner: Supplier’s Name
  • Value
  • Select the category it belongs to (if there is no category, you can add it from Categories)

After saving the new expense, the app will display the list of the expenses for the current month. You can, also, select another period of time and the Simple Income & Expenses Tracker app will display you all the expenses from that period.

4. Generate the graph of the income and the expenses

To generate the graph of the evolution of the income and the expenses:

  • select the “Stats” button from the bottom bar
  • select “Income vs Expenses”, in the top right menu
  • then select the period of time

This chart can be generated for different periods of time: current month, last month, current week, current year, last year or for the entire period (obviously, from the date you first used the app).

The evolution of the income is represented by the blue line. The red line represents the evolution of the expenses. Using this chart you can see the upward or downward trends.

5. Generate the chart with the share of the expenses in the total Expenses

To generate the chart with the share of each expense category in the total expenses:

  • select the “Stats” button, in the bottom bar
  • select “Expense by category”, in the top right menu
  • then select the period of time

This graph can be generated for different periods of time: current month, last month, current week, current year, last year or for the whole period.

It helps you see which expenses have the largest share and, based on your needs, you can reduce, in the future, the value of one or more categories of income, in order to save money.

6. Generate the chart with the share of the income in total Income

The graph with the share of income in total revenue is generated as follows:

  • select the “Stats” button, in the bottom bar
  • select “Income by category”, in the top right menu
  • then select the period of time

The same periods of time are available in this case as well.

Depending on these weights in the total you can make the decision to consume more resources to increase one or more categories that can bring you higher income.
