I have made some little pinewood shelves, great for trinkets. They are very useful for organizing books or any other things, if you put more shelves on a wall. You can create a spectacular array of cubes on a wall, or you can even create an entire display using some of these colored cubes.
They are 9.5 cm in width by 9.5 cm in length by 9.5 cm in depth. Even though they are small, you can take advantage of their flatness, so you can lay many books on top of each other, since they are solid wood and are sturdy enough to easily hold a couple of kilograms. You can also combine multiple colors to obtain a random design. This way you can include the accent color of the room’s design in the display on the wall.
The fastening mounting system is completely hidden: a bolt is screwed into the wall (with a 6 mm dowel), and then the cubes are screwed on the bolt. You need a two headed screw, with one end being able to secure a metric nut. For this, the cubes have a double nut screwed on their back. It’s a good idea that, before turning the cubes to screw them on the bolt in the wall, to put a sheet of paper on the wall, with the bolt in the center, so that you won’t scratch the wall when you turn the cube shelf. After securely fixing the little cube on the wall, you can tear the sheet and pull it from behind the cube.
Below you can find some layouts using different colored shelves. We took a lot of photos:
